Geely EX5 in Gulf: Heat and Steering

Importers watching the Middle East EV market should track Geely EX5, a compact BEV SUV, but whether it sells well hinges on three hard gates, not the spec sheet. EX5 sits on Geely's global BEV platform as a compact SUV with CLTC range around 400 to 500 km, aimed at family and city commuting, which fits the Gulf profile of high fuel price, long commutes and young households. Its edge is mainstream price plus enough range, but the Gulf is not a normal market and shipping the China version will stall at the border.

The core Gulf conflict is heat. Importers must confirm with Geely that EX5 carries heat-market battery calibration, coolant loop and BMS strategy, not the China build.

Run a summer account. Gulf summers load the AC hard, so real range is often 70% to 80% of label; an EX5 rated 440 km may deliver only 310 to 350 km in heat.

Certification and steering are unavoidable. Many new models stall with certification unfinished while cars sit in the yard, tying up cash.

Check three items before ordering. First, get from Geely the EX5 heat-market battery calibration note and GCC certification status, confirming a certificate number exists. Second, lock the left or right steering version and arrival window for your market to avoid uncertified cars at port. Third, confirm local authorised service and battery parts stock.
