The Zongheng G700 launched 29 September means, for Middle East, North Africa and Latin America, that China's luxury off-road is a mature source pressing imported fuel SUVs. In 11 months it passed 30,000 sales and led in eight countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Mexico and Kuwait.
Zongheng is Chery's luxury off-road brand; the G700 is its flagship. Hardware is NEV hardcore: Kunpeng CDM-O hybrid, integrated frame, three lockers standard, XWD-S smart 4WD, X+18 modes and Huawei Qiankun ADS 5. Five trims span 5/6 seats, list 329,900-442,900 yuan, launch from 304,900.
Size the segment. In H1 2026 China's boxy hardcore SUV passed 440,000 units, near 12% of the SUV market. Off-road NEV penetration passed 50%, PHEV-led. Chinese brands hold about 70% of luxury off-road; in 2025 only the Toyota Prado survived among top-ten imported fuel off-roaders, under 21,000 units.
For importers this reshapes two things. First, the buy logic flips: luxury off-road once meant a few parallel-imported fuel models, yet at the same price you get three lockers, smart 4WD and PHEV range. Second, with 70% of the slice local brands, one imported fuel off-roader leaves stock turns and margin exposed.
Before the first order, check four things with the supplier. First, certification and left/right-hand drive, confirm local registration. Second, whether the 304,900-yuan launch price is an FOB basis or China-only. Third, the warranty on three lockers and XWD-S for off-road use. Fourth, overseas delivery lead time and spare depot; send a VIN for a precise quote.
