AI Cockpits Hit 8K Yuan Class: 8295P Is the New Baseline

Smart cockpits are the key battleground in the compact segment: Kia's new Seltos starts at 80,900 yuan with a 27-inch display, the Snapdragon 8295P (30 TOPS NPU) and Ernie large model as standard. The entry price for a flagship cockpit dropped from 200,000 to 80,000 yuan; joint-venture brands now compete with chip compute.

The 8295P is one of the most produced cockpit chips, built on 5nm: CPU about 2.3x the 8155, GPU about 2.5x, NPU from 4 to 30 TOPS. That jump changes voice and multimodal interaction qualitatively; with 24GB RAM and 256GB storage the Seltos runs large models on board, understanding natural language even offline.

Mass production of the 8295P rewrites cockpit cost structures. The 8155 used to divide mid-range from premium; now an 80,000-yuan car carries a flagship chip. Compute is no longer the core of differentiation; model capability and interaction design are the new battleground, and overseas expectations are converging fast on China's bar.

Market data confirms the intensity: in May 2026, compact SUV retail in China was about 409,000 units, down 27.7% year on year, NEV penetration passed 60%, joint-venture share shrank to about 24.5%. In a shrinking market, intelligence is one of the few variables still supporting premium and replacement demand.

OEM exporters and cockpit suppliers should do three things: build a comparison list of cockpit specs in target markets to judge whether 8295P-class compute is already a consumer expectation; evaluate model compliance and multilingual ability before shipping; watch chip allocation and lead times.
