Central Asia is one of the fastest-growing corridors for Chinese vehicles. All five countries sit on the overland and rail routes from China (via Khorgos and the Caspian), and Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and the broader EAEU framework shape the tariff rules. This guide summarises the real import framework for each country: age limits, duties, ports, certification and documents. Figures are indicative — always confirm with the destination customs before shipping.
What are the rules for importing a car from China into Central Asia?
Age limit: Age caps and emission rules differ across the five countries. Kazakhstan limits used cars to 10 years and requires Euro 4 or better. Uzbekistan caps fuel and diesel vehicles at 7 years with Euro 5, while EVs have no age limit. Kyrgyzstan allows up to 10 years (Euro 2 minimum). Tajikistan is the most permissive — pre-2013 models are barred, 2013 and later are admitted with Euro 4, DPF for diesels, mandatory ABS and FCW from 2018. Turkmenistan caps vehicles at 5 years (Euro 3 minimum) and requires white or silver bodywork, banning black.
Import duty & taxes: Duty generally scales with age and engine size. Uzbekistan applies three bands — 15% under 1 year, 30% for 1–3 years and 40% over 3 years — plus a per-cubic-centimetre charge and 12% VAT, with EVs at 0% duty. Kyrgyzstan charges 10–15% under 3 years, 20% or EUR 0.36–0.80 per cc for 3–7 years, and EUR 1.40–3.20 per cc over 7 years, plus 12% VAT. Kazakhstan applies the EAEU common tariff with 16% VAT in 2026, scaling used-car duty from about 20%. Tajikistan uses a flat tariff of roughly USD 25–100 per vehicle plus VAT. Turkmenistan levies about 2% duty, 15% VAT and an excise.
Authority & certification: Customs clearance is the starting point in each market, with local certification on top. Kazakhstan applies EAEU technical regulation TR CU 018/2011 and requires OTTC/SBKTS certification issued through the Ministry of Industry and Construction. Uzbekistan's customs committee handles clearance with a technical conformity certificate and Euro 5 proof. Kyrgyzstan, under the EAEU framework, registers vehicles through the State Registration Service (GRS) and issues certificates of conformity. Tajikistan uses the TajikAutoCert scheme with local inspection. Turkmenistan's customs authority requires documentation plus an import approval and licence.
Our experience in this region
EZ Auto is based in China (Zhengzhou, Henan) with 15–20 years in the country's car export trade. Central Asia is a core corridor for vehicle exports from China, and we ship new and used cars built in China there through established overland and rail routes with complete export documentation. Local import clearance is arranged by the buyer or a licensed broker; we provide all paperwork and per-country guidance. We do not operate local offices in Central Asia — every car is sourced and inspected in China before shipment.

Do you handle import clearance in my country?
Export clearance in China is on us. Import clearance is handled by you or your local broker; we supply all documents and advise on requirements per country.
How long does shipping from China to Central Asia take?
Overland and rail shipments via Khorgos typically take about 15–25 days to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, longer onward to Turkmenistan. Transit times vary with border clearance and season, so we confirm the current schedule for your specific route and port before you book.
Can I import a right-hand-drive car into Central Asia?
No. All five Central Asian countries require left-hand-drive vehicles, and Turkmenistan additionally restricts certain vehicle colours. Sourcing a left-hand-drive specification from the factory is far cheaper than trying to convert a right-hand-drive car later, so we confirm the steering configuration before you order.
Which Chinese vehicles sell best in Central Asia?
Durable, easy-to-service petrol SUVs and pickups dominate, alongside a fast-growing share of new energy vehicles as charging networks expand in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Because age limits and emission floors differ per country, we match the model to your destination rules before quoting, rather than offering a one-size list.
