China EMC standard adds ADAS immunity: what importers retest

Electromagnetic compatibility now means the driver-assist stack gets its own immunity test, not just the car. From July 2027, GB 34660—2026 puts radars, cameras and domain controllers under field strengths the old whole-vehicle report never covered. One report no longer clears a model.

The comparison report behind this, covered by China Consumer News, counts 168 NEV standards in force: 104 national, or 62%, and 64 industry-level. Against the EU baseline China adds six mandatory items, from bottom impact and salt spray to immersion, altitude and humid heat cycling. Neither matrix replaces the other.

Reuse decides cost. 47 Chinese vehicle standards are already adopted abroad, and 10 NEV standards are cited in foreign rules, so chassis and charging reports often travel. The six environmental items and the ADAS clause have no EU counterpart, and those get retested. One prototype on two matrices beats two cars on one each.

Timing is where importers feel it. ADAS immunity needs the full sensor set on the rig, so a missing radar stops the run, and each fix costs another slot and pushes approval across months. The driving cycle behind the tests covers 41 cities, 3,830 cars and 55 million km, which fixes the test list.

Before signing, request three documents: the EMC report with its ADAS immunity annex and lab accreditation; the standard list with version numbers, showing GB 34660—2026 is applied; and the tested-prototype list with configuration and VIN. If the sensors tested differ from yours, the approval risk stays with you.
