On August 1, Chery Group released its July 2026 sales figures: 276,820 vehicles sold in the month, up 23.3% year on year, of which 202,533 were exported, up 70.1% — renewing the record for the highest monthly exports by a Chinese car brand for the fifth consecutive month and making Chery the first Chinese automaker to exceed 200,000 units in a single month. New-energy sales in the month reached 129,067 units, up 97.5%, a record monthly high. Under the accounting of the Hong Kong-listed Chery Automobile Co., Ltd., July sales were 261,876 units, up 24.1% year on year.
China's auto exports have continued to strengthen through 2026, with June whole-vehicle exports first breaking the one-million-vehicle monthly mark under the CAAM accounting. Chery has long ranked first among Chinese brands in exports, with overseas presence spanning Russia and the EAEU, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia and other core markets, and has developed a model combining complete-vehicle exports, KD assembly and localized production: it maintains monthly sales of nearly 20,000 units on the Russian market while covering a multi-brand matrix through local contract manufacturing, with the Tiggo SUV family and the Fulwin new-energy series forming the backbone of overseas volume. The single-month export breakthrough of 200,000 units marks Chinese brands' shift from "volume growth" to "scale transformation" in going global.
By the numbers: in January-July, Chery Group's cumulative sales reached 1,634,353 units, up 10.1%; cumulative exports hit 1,146,350 units, up 71.2%, the fastest ever to exceed 1.1 million exports within a year; cumulative new-energy sales reached 604,305 units, up 42.3%. On the group basis, July exports accounted for about 73% of monthly sales; compared with exports of about 119,000 units in the same month last year, exports rose by about 83,000 units, making overseas markets the absolute main growth driver. By end of July, Chery's global cumulative users exceeded 20.16 million, of which overseas users exceeded 6.99 million, with overseas cumulative sales now accounting for about one-third of the global user base. It should be noted that fuel vehicles still dominate the export mix; new-energy exports are ramping up quickly, with a significant portion of the group's roughly 130,000 July new-energy sales flowing to overseas markets.
For overseas importers and dealers, a top brand exceeding 200,000 monthly exports means: ample supply and stable delivery, higher production priority for popular models, and greater certainty in securing allocations through authorized channels. At the same time, leading brands are accelerating the build-out of official channels and local capacity in target markets, widening the room for importers to sign directly with brands — but pure trading intermediaries will face mounting pressure of being replaced by official channels. Selection should tilt toward differentiated models and localized services; the days of easy resale arbitrage are narrowing, and securing stable supply and after-sales backing through official brand channels is becoming the better option.
Importers are advised to seize the current window: prioritize confirming official authorization or regional dealership status with Chery and other leading brands to lock in allocations and delivery cadence for best-selling models in the second half; for existing small and mid-size brand partnerships, evaluate export growth and after-sales support to avoid over-concentrating orders on a single brand; meanwhile track KD plants and localized production progress in target countries and plan early for parts and aftermarket opportunities supporting local assembly, upgrading pure vehicle trading into a combined "vehicle + parts + service" business.
BYD exported 179,800 passenger vehicles and pickups in July, up 124.3% year on year; cumulative overseas sales in January-July exceeded 969,000 units, just one step away from the one-million mark, making overseas markets the core growth engine.
CAAM's June production and sales data: exports of 1.037 million units broke the single-month million mark for the first time, and NEV exports of 523,000 units overtook gasoline vehicles for the first time, making exports the industry's core growth engine.

CPCA data shows Chinese self-owned brands took a 54.9% share of the Russian market in June, but with VAT raised to 22% and the scrappage fee rising to roughly 800,000-900,000 rubles, compounded by the taxi localization law, the era of effortless gains from complete-vehicle exports is over.
